Mediterranean Cruise 2025 - Messina
27th October, Monday
We docked in Messina at 10am and went shoreside shortly after. We first walked to the Cathedral and the adjacent Campanile with its famous astronomical clock. At noon we watched the “show” where the lion roars, the cock crows and then statues and carousels move to the accompaniment of Ave Maria.
We then made our way up the hill via sets of stairs to the Tempio di Cristi, discovering half-way up that the church was closed today, being Monday, so we turned around and descended to the waterfront intending to catch the bus to the Messina Regional Museum to see the Caravaggio paintings, but found that this too is closed on Mondays.
So we walked the streets some more, found a small supermarket to stock up on David’s beer, and stopped for a coffee at a sidewalk café before returning to the ship.
