14th October Tuesday
Tried breakfast at the Lido buffet this morning – so much choice. Left the ship just after 8am and caught a shuttle to the Cruise Terminal (not really necessary – it wasn’t far). We then bypassed the HOHO/City Tour buses and walked through the back streets to the Old Fortress.
We spent a couple of hours there, including the steepish climb up to the lighthouse at the top (we couldn’t go in the lighthouse). We then wandered the very touristy streets in the old town, stopping to take a look at St Spyridon Church and then a rest stop for a yummy gelato (me) and pistachio icecream (David) before walking back to the port.
We bought a big bottle of water, a loofah sponge, and 6 beers at very cheap prices, and although we were screened at the Cruise Port, the beers got through. Back on board just after 3pm and had a drink in the Lido bar, where we were joined by David and Sue Ellis (whom we met on the plane from Dubai to Athens, and again at the Stanley Hotel – they live in the Poynton in Takapuna!) We opted for the Mediterranean buffet dinner at the Lido – and decided it was nice, but not as good as the Dining Room).
After dinner we went to the Rock and Roll lounge where David entered the Music Quiz. A bit of fun, and his team did quite well.
